Colombian army sappers detonated an abandoned vehicle loaded with explosives on the Pan-American highway in Colombia, the same highway where guerrillas reportedly blew up part of the road on Monday.
According to the Latin American Herald, the vehicle was left on the Pan-American highway six days ago, but soldiers were only able to reach it on Tuesday as the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) guerrillas had mined the surrounding area.
Soldiers were able to move the vehicle to a more isolated area of the road where they performed a controlled detonation.
On Monday, at around 11 p.m., FARC reportedly used 100 kilos of dynamite to blast a hole on the same highway, between the municipalities of Santander de Quilichao and Mondomo in Cauca province.
After the explosion the highway patrol closed the lane affected by the blast while left the other open for vehicles of less than 8 tons to drive along, the Region 4 police commander, Gen. Omar Rubiano, was quoted by Fox News Latino as saying.
Officials blamed the explosion on FARC.
Violence attributed to the FARC has been growing in Colombia's southwest region in the last few weeks where at least half a dozen members of the security forces have been killed.
According to EFE Agency, the FARC and the Colombian government have been negotiating a way out of the conflict in Havana since November 2012, while the armed conflict continues across the country.
