Thailand is celebrating the anniversary of the coronation of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, crowned 64 years ago.
Thousands lined the streets waving yellow flags, the kings royal colour, as the monarch’s motorcade drove to a Buddhist ceremony to mark Coronation Day.
The king is seen as the father of the nation and considered by many to be almost divine. Any criticism of the king or the royal Family is against the law.
The world’s longest reigning monarch has suffered poor health in recent times and uses a wheelchair.
He came to the throne in 1950 at the age of 18.
