Deadly twin blasts in Kenyan city of Mombasa

At least three people have been killed and others injured after twin explosions in Kenya’s port city of Mombasa.

All the casualties occurred when one or several grenades were thrown at a packed bus, arriving at a transport terminal from the capital Nairobi.

No one was hurt in the other blast, reportedly at a bar near a hotel popular with tourists along the Indian Ocean coastline.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the explosions.

But Kenya has blamed a surge in attacks on Somali Islamist militants who killed at least 67 people at a shopping mall in Nairobi last September.

The latest bloodshed comes after six worshippers were killed in an attack on a church near Mombasa in March.

The insurgents vowed to target Kenya after it sent troops into neighbouring Somalia to fight al Qaeda-linked militants in 2011.
