ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)

STORY: Pro-Russian protesters stormed the prosecutor's office in the separatist-held city of Donetsk on Thursday, lobbing stones and smashing windows after accusing the office of working for the Western-backed government in Kiev.

Hundreds of riot police were guarding the prosecutor's office building when separatist protesters who had been on a May Day march earlier in the day rallied to the front.

A full confrontation broke out soon after as demonstrators faced off with the riot police and then kicked their shields.

They lobbed stones at the surrounded security forces who had no where to go. At first police responded by beating the demonstrators with their batons but were quickly overrun by the angry mob.

Several of the police forces ran to the back of the building whilst others had to negotiate their way out from under their shields as mobs waited to lynch them.

The riot police eventually made a tortoise formation
