Anyone can post their favorite name through the zoo’s Facebook page. On May 1st, the facility will post the giraffe keepers' favorite four and Netizens will be able to cast their final vote on the top picks.
The baby giraffe doesn’t seem to be concerned about what her name is going to be. The female newborn arrived on Monday, April 28th at a little after 5:30 AM.
She weighs approximately 125 pounds and is perfectly healthy. After the 7-year-old mother giraffe named Tessa, gave birth, the baby fell roughly 5 feet to the ground.
She lay still for several minutes then attempted to get up on her feet. Evidently a very determined creature, she was standing less than an hour and a half after she first greeted the world.
The zoo's curator of mammals, Mike Dulaney remarked "It never gets old. It's always exciting. Whenever a new life comes into the world like that, especially one that's six feet tall, it's pretty impressive."
Both Tessa and the baby are reportedly doing fantastic. They are going to be kept indoors for the next few days so they can spend time bonding together.
