Colombian authorities have said that a British teenager died on Wednesday after taking hallucinogens in a rainforest area of the country.
According to the BBC, the 19-year-old Henry Miller was taking part in a tribal ritual along with other tourists from Italy, France, Germany and Colombia that involved the consumption of Yage.
Yage, also known as Ayahuasca, is a mix of herbs from the Amazon widely-used by tribal people in South America because of its reported psychedelic qualities. It is also believed to have spiritual and healing properties.
The vivid hallucinations provoked by the drink usually come after severe vomiting and diarrhoea. the drink can also cause psychological distress.
According to RT, Miller drank yage on two different occasions and started feeling ill after his second try.
The shaman who prepared the drink reportedly asked two local men to take Miller to hospital on a motorbike after his health deteriorated.
But the two men allegedly dumped his body at the roadside, where it found by police on Thursday.
Police believe the two men panicked when they realized the teen would not make it and abandoned his body on the road.
The men and the shaman were questioned by authorities but they have not yet been arrested for any crime.
The brother of the teenager described Miller as "an adventurous person who travelled extensively."
