Turkey is the first country to celebrate Children`s Day (Turkish:Ulusal Egemenlik ve Çocuk Bayramı, literally "The Holiday of National Sovereignty and Children")
It is also the first and only children festival that has been celebrated internationally as "TRT 23rd April International Children's Festival" through the organization of TRT (Turkish Radio and TV Corporation) since 1979.
The 23rd April Children's Festival is a gift to children from Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Republic of Turkey, to mark the opening of the Grand National Assembly (23 April 1920). To commemorate the event, April 23 was proclaimed a national holiday in 1921.
23rd of April International Children Festival is celebrated with the principle of "PEACE IN THE HOMELAND, PEACE IN THE WORLD" through the participation of an average of 40 countries.
The Festival intends to contribute creation of a world where children can live peacefully by developing sentiments of fraternity, love and friendship.
