The Albuquerque Poet Laureate Program (APLP) celebrates poetry by recognizing a resident poet who makes meaningful connections, honors and serves our diverse community, elevates the importance of the art form, and shares poetry with Albuquerque residents.

The Second Albuquerque Poet Laureate (2014-16) -- announced through a poem by Merimee Moffitt on Saturday, April 25 at the Main Library in Downtown Albuquerque -- is Jessica Helen Lopez. She follows the Inaugural Albuquerque Poet Laureate Hakim Bellamy (2012-14).

APLP is coordinated by a seven-person Organizing Committee. The Albuquerque Poet Laureate is chosen by a separate seven-person Selection Committee, through a thorough review of the competitive applications received and a unanimous decision-making process.

Many thanks to Mayor Richard J. Berry, the City of Albuquerque and McCune Charitable Foundation for their recognition and continued support of this program.
