Tensions are rising in Slaviansk, Ukraine, where international observers remained detained by pro-Russian separatists.

The observers are part of a monitoring mission under the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, or simply OSCE.

To the separatists, the eight OSCE members are not observers.

"No. They are not observers, they are spies. We have information confirming that. The information confirming their spying activities was in their papers."

The separatists said the observers had military identification cards, military insignia and other evidence of spying.
