The British royal couple, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined military personnel, veterans and the pubic in Canberra to mark Anzac Day on the last day of their Antipodean tour.
The Australian War Memorial held a service at dawn, as a reminder of the ill-fated dawn landing of troops on Gallipoli in 1915.
Tens of thousands of soldiers, including Australian, New Zealand and British servicemen, died in the attempted invasion in Turkey.
Later in the morning the couple paid their respects by laying a wreath at the memorial. Australia's Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove also attended.
The name Anzac Day comes from an acronym used to describe the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.
These commemorations conclude the duke and duchesses two week tour of Australia and New Zealand.
But the person who stole the limelight only made a brief appearance at the airport on Friday.
