Ronald McDonald is everywhere these days and he's getting revamped to fit into modern day life. McDonald’s recently announced that they will be showcasing more of this icon on social media.

Ronald will reportedly appear on networks around the world under hashtag RonaldMcDonald. The fast food chain hopes that the move will attract younger customers.

A McDonalds’ spokesperson remarked "Ronald’s new to social media so he’s just dipping in his toes right now, rather than jumping in with both big red shoes."

At first, Ronald won’t be getting his very own Twitter account, but the chain will post comments from him on the company page. For example, in McDonald’s announcement regarding Ronald appearing on social media, they quoted the clown as saying ’Selfies…here I come!’.

The Ronald McDonald character was first played by Willard Scott in 1963.

He shot to fame relatively quickly and in 1966, Ronald became McDonald’s national spokesman.

In recent years, the popularity of the traditional looking clown dwindled. Now McDonald’s is striving to make him more modern, hence the social media idea.
