That makes Wrigley the second oldest ballpark in country, coming right behind Fenway Park in Boston which turned 100 in 2012. In honor of Wrigley Field’s birthday, many Cubs fans dressed in their team’s apparel and shared photos on social media.
Others posted nostalgic images of the field from decades ago. And a great many of them spent some time outdoors to explore the stadium in person.
Major League Baseball or MLB also took part in the celebration and unveiled a video made just for Wrigley Field’s birthday. A slideshow of vintage game photos and clips beautifully depict the history of the team, the field and the fans.
The footage transitions from nostalgic photos to modern day snapshots, serving as the perfect video birthday card. Many Cubs fans are in agreement about the sights, sounds and smells of Wrigley Field, saying the place hasn’t changed at all and still feels like home.
Mike Conoboy who has worked as a Wrigley Field groundskeeper for 25 years said it best, commenting ‘The first game I came to as a kid in 1965, I remember walking up them stairs and seeing the field, getting that feeling. It was breathtaking. Even to this day, every once in a while, I still feel that.’
