STORY: The search at sea for ferry passengers on the capsized South Korean ferry continued on Tuesday (April 22) with 185 still missing.
Of the 476 passengers and crew on board, 339 were children and teachers on a high school outing. Only 174 people have been rescued and the remainder are all presumed to have drowned.
A rescue operation has turned into a grim search through the stricken vessel to recover the remaining passengers.
The South Korean Coast Guard sped up search operations under better weather conditions on Tuesday.
The Sewol ferry sank last Wednesday, April16 on a routine trip south from the port of Incheon to the sub-tropical holiday island of Jeju.
The Coast Guard confirmed the death toll of the passengers reached 117 as of 1200GMT on Tuesday (April 22).
