STORY: Pakistan said on Tuesday (April 22) that it had successfully conducted a training launch of short range surface-to-surface ballistic missile.
Hatf III (Ghaznavi) can carry nuclear and conventional warheads to a range of 290 kilometers, a press release from the military said.
The statement added that the successful test was "warmly appreciated by the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan who congratulated the participating troops, scientists and engineers on their outstanding achievement."
Pakistan and India conduct missile tests regularly and inform each other in advance. Pakistan, like neighboring India, is not a signatory to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty (NPT).
