A gunfight that broke out over a confiscated laptop near the Afghan capital on Saturday ended with the death of an Afghan serviceman and three NATO soldiers wounded, according to Afghan and NATO officials.
The fight broke out at the Afghan National Army Officer Academy near Kabul which only opened last week, the BBC reported.
Shots were fired after an argument between an Afghan guard and three NATO soldiers following the confiscation of a laptop computer from a driver.
Reports said that soldiers from New Zealand and Australia had sworn at the Afghan guard during the argument and that the soldier had shot at the group later as they walked through the compound.
One of the bullets is believed to have fragmented and injured two of the soldiers before the third soldier shot and critically injured the Afghani, who later died.
According to Reuters, "so-called 'insider attacks' are severely straining ties between the NATO-led alliance and the Kabul authorities and further undermine waning support for the war in the West.
"They have become one of the Taliban insurgents' most effective weapons against the coalition.
"Insider attacks have been on the rise in recent months, with at least five reported since Sept 21, compared to 11 incidents since the start of the year.
"A flurry of attacks last year prompted the coalition to briefly suspend joint military operations, a cornerstone of its mission, and adopt measures limiting interaction between troops.
"Most foreign combat troops are due to leave by the end of next year, but a small mission may remain in Afghanistan to continue supporting its newly-formed military and police forces.
