Drunk burglar caught after falling through roof of Bealls Outlet store

Florida certainly has no shortage of dumb criminals, and Eric Willard represents the latest addition to the state's very long list of dumb as a stump crooks.

The drunken 23-year-old was booked earlier this week for falling through the roof of a department store during an alleged attempted burglary, according to a report by the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

Willard and his mother were out drinking at the Peckers Pub in Ormond Beach. The pair caused a bit of a ruckus, allegedly getting into an argument and banging repeatedly on the doors of the establishment.

After the two were kicked out, Willard sauntered over to the nearby Publix supermarket at around 1am and thought it'd be a good idea to try and pry open the closed store's doors.

When that failed, he went with Plan B: ramming shopping carts into them. Surprisingly enough, this didn't work either.

"He apparently had been very drunk," said sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

His drunken escapade next took him to the roof of the Bealls Outlet store just next door where he slipped into an air vent.

When the vent could no longer support his weight, he crashed through the store's ceiling and fell onto the store's floor.

His final brilliant decision for the night was to exit the store the normal way — through the door — which triggered the alarm.

Needless to say, surveillance cameras recorded the whole thing and Willard was arrested two days later by local police.
