A man looking for a ride found one, but it didn’t turn out at all like he’d expected.

Instead of ending up on the other side of a bridge, he found himself stuck in the muddy bed of a Texas lake.

Mario Ottesen said he had been waiting at a rest area near Lake Ray Hubbard.

When a van with 5 men in their late teens or twenties pulled up and offered a ride over the lake, he took them up on it.

Shortly after they’d started moving, the mood got a little strange and the men went silent.

Suddenly, the driver slammed on the brakes, and Ottensen was grabbed and pulled out of the van.

The men proceeded to punch and drag him, and ultimately threw him over the bridge.

Ottensen did not land in the water, but rather found himself stuck in the mud.

Remarkably, he wasn’t badly injured in the 25-foot fall.

He tried to pull himself out several times, but always slid right back in.

Finally, he dialed 911 and rescue teams called a hovercraft to the site to pull him out.

The men in the van have not yet been located.
