With Ukraine's colors on full display, hundreds are protesting in Geneva against what they're calling Russian aggression.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) PROTESTER IDINA SAYING:

"We are suffering now from the violence and from the terror that Russia is exporting to Ukraine at the moment."

The protest comes as the U.S., Russia, Ukraine and the European Union meet in Geneva to find a peaceful solution to the ongoing crisis.

Tensions escalated overnight after Kiev announced that three pro-Russian separatists had been killed when they attacked a Ukrainian National Guard base.

Elsewhere, pro-Russian activists are occupying government buildings in Ukraine's east.

They're demanding referendums on joining Russia.

Kiev is accusing Moscow of stirring the unrest.

Back in Geneva, posters pointed fingers at Russian President Vladimir Putin and his foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov.

Another protester said she didn't want to see Ukraine dismembered.
