Fiery car crash: 6 foreigners dead in Malaysia highway accident

Six foreigners were killed in a fiery car accident in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia early on Wednesday morning (December 19).

A blue Nissan Skyline was traveling along the SMART highway toward Jalan Perkasa at around 12:42 a.m. when a witness said it lost control and slammed into the concrete pillar near the Kampung Pandan roundabout, bursting into flames, according to The Star Online.

State media Bernama reported the victims were identified as Simon John Hall, 40, manager of Leighton Offshore here, the three Filipino women were Siso Aileen, 30, Maileen Tentative Montejo, 26, and Mary Grace Macaraig, 24, while the two Myanmar nationals were Pi Pi, 20, and Esther Sui, 26.

Thirteen Fire and Rescue department officers were dispatched to the scene and took about an hour to remove the charred bodies from the wreckage.

The Star Online reported, "Military officer Kamarul Haniff Hamid, 21 said he witnessed the horrific crash while driving along Jalan Tun Razak towards the roundabout.

"'I was in the car with my sister and girlfriend after supper when I saw this blur of a car that was speeding really fast.

"'Then I heard brakes screeching and then a loud boom and saw the explosion when it hit the pillar. The car's door was torn off and it moved a bit more before stopping.

"'I ran over there and tried to pull out the people inside but the flames were so big, I couldn't get near it. I could only watch,' said Kamarul Haniff.

"He said the six victims inside were not moving and didn't hear any screams for help.

"'It spooked me because earlier, I nearly got into an accident with two motorcycles. Then minutes later such an unbelievable thing happened in front of my eyes,' he said."
