Like the explorers of yesteryear setting off on their world discoveries, Chris Christoffels & José Roland head for the unknown in a quest for treasures of the mind.
A statue of Henry the Navigator, or Infante Henrique (1394-1460) who funded many New World discoveries, watches over the Palacio da Bolso in Oporto. The venue was ideal for Exploradores, the latest in situ piece by Chris Christoffels & José Roland.
Presented as a diptych, the new work will evoke life's journey.
Outside, a gold-coloured laser will connect the rosette window
to the statue's finger extended towards the horizon.
Inside, at the Palace's very heart in its neo-Moorish main hall, moving images on a suspended screen will evoke the patterns of azulejos in a story in which poems, music, voice, dance and light interact in a joyous ode to adventure and exploration.
