Dress code gets chemotherapy patient kicked out of Morton's Steakhouse:
Social media sites including Facebook and Yelp are abuzz with negative commentary after claims that staff at an upscale restaurant mistreated a cancer patient and called police to eject his party from the restaurant - all over a dress code disagreement.
The controversy surrounds an alleged confrontation over the weekend at this Morton's Steak House restaurant in downtown Nashville, Tennessee.
According to numerous scathing reviews online, a group of 16 had just spent more than $2000 at a company Christmas party when one of the diners, a cancer patient sensitive to cold form chemotherapy, donned a woolen beanie.
This didn't sit well with the restaurant's assistant manager, who immediately demanded he remove it.
The man's colleagues explained he needed the warmth but the unmoved woman told them he should have brought a doctor's note or have requested the private dining area.
The man and his family agreed to leave. But it seems the assistant manager called police after arguing the point with his companions.
Police arrived and the group were escorted out of the restaurant.
Online commenters who say they were present wrote that on asking the assistant manager why police became involved they were given the explanation that the police happened to be on a patrol in the area and stopped by purely coincidentally.
For its part, the restaurant chain offered this comment on it's Facebook page which has received generally poor reviews:
"Morton's fans: We are aware of the situation that happened at our Nashville location over the weekend. We appreciate you all bringing it to our attention, and we have reached out to the parties involved and can assure you that all facts will be uncovered. Please know that our corporate executives are dedicated to making this right with our customers. We appreciate everyone's concern."
