STORY: Ugly scenes showing injured people being attacked in Kharkiv following clashes on Sunday between pro-Ukraine supporters and pro-Russian opponents have been released by the pro-Ukrainian Euromaidan movement.

Police said 50 people were hurt, 10 of whom received hospital treatment, in the fighting in the eastern Ukrainian city.

The incident could not be independently verified and further details were not immediately available. The images show three injured people, all bleeding from head wounds, being abused, dragged and kicked by people wearing St. George's ribbons, emblems adopted by pro-Russian separatists.

The incident apparently took place in the entrance to the University underground station.

Ukraine's Interfax news agency said pro-Ukrainian supporters were attacked near a monument in the city by pro-Russian supporters after a pro-Ukraine rally.
