US Vice President Joe Biden has announced a visit to Ukraine in less than ten days. He will be the most high profile American official to visit the country since the crisis began.
The visit is aimed at showing support for Ukraine as it faces a gas crisis, uprisings in the east of pro-Russian supporters and Russian troop manoeuvres along its borders. US secretary of state John Kerry warned Moscow of further consequences if they did not move their troops.
Ukraine’s interim government has denounced recent attacks in the east as “a display of external aggression from Russia.”
The Russian foreign minister warned the US that any armed action by Kyiv in the east would undermine attempts at cooperation, including four-way talks planned for Thursday in Geneva.
