Babies use iPads? It's never too early for an iPad!

2014-04-12 4

The Fisher Price company is under fire after offering a baby bouncy seat with an extension for an iPad. The company also released a baby potty with a iPad tray. These products go against advice from experts who say kids under the age of 2 should not view any TV or other bright screens.

The blowback from childcare experts highlights an ever-growing issue regarding kids and electronic devices as all too many parents use these devices to act as virtual baby-sitters or to keep kids quiet during an outing.

In the digital age, how are parents supposed to follow pediatric guidelines that recommend NO TV/computer screen viewing for kids under two? Obviously, this recommendation is unrealistic, but many argue affixing an iPad holder to a baby seat isn't a solution either.

The Fisher Price company is calling their latest project the "Newborn-to-Toddler Apptivity™ Seat," and the firm says they never intended to push the product on all parents, saying moms and dads have dozens of products to choose from and the company simply wanted to provide more "options."

But, the public reaction in the United States has been overwhelmingly negative. The Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood has begun a campaign to have the product pulled from the market and so far has gathered over 12,000 signatures from parents who agree this is a step too far.

In this light-hearted animation, we poke fun at the iPad baby generation and imagine a world where owning an iPad is a "basic" human right.
