If you're looking to become a successful burglar it helps if you're able to cover your tracks. Collin Thomas Ferguson decided the hell with all that when he left footprints in the snow on Monday during a string of burglaries.

Footprints in the snow helped police in Amarillo, Texas to track down the burglary suspect.

Collin Thomas Ferguson was being held Monday on four burglary counts and a charge of possession of a controlled substance. Online Potter County jail records do not list an attorney for the Bloomfield, New Mexico man, whose bond was set at $6,000.

Amarillo authorities said that on Sunday morning they received a call about a vehicle being broken into. A man that was leaving for work that morning saw someone in his parked car. Authorities say the suspect ran, but then returned after he apparently left his cellphone in the vehicle. Of course you have to return for your cellphone. So Ferguson did a 180 and went back to get his baby. After properly locating and securing his cellphone, he fled again for the second time, according to Amarillo police.

When police arrived at the scene of the burglary they discovered that Ferguson was kind enough to leave them a trail of footprints in the snow. The officers then followed the footprints and were able to find Ferguson hiding in another parked car.

Ferguson is charged in connection with two vehicle break-ins and the burglary of a building. Ferguson was also charged with possession of an illegal substance after police found that he was also carrying marijuana.
