Two men travelling on stolen passports on missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 were reportedly Iranian nationals who wanted to immigrate to Europe.
According to the Telegraph, the two Iranian men who boarded flight MH370 using stolen Italian and Austrian passports reportedly bought the passports because they wanted to immigrate to Denmark and Germany. They were scheduled to fly to Amsterdam together via Beijing, before catching separate connecting flights to Copenhagen and Frankfurt, Haaretz reported.
It was reported that an Iranian man, known as "Mr Ali", used a travel agent in Pattaya, Thailand, to book cheap tickets to Europe for the two men on March 1. The two men were initially going to travel with Qatar Airways and Etihad. The tickets later expired and "Mr Ali" contacted the travel agent again on Thursday, rebooking the men on the Malaysia Airlines flight via Beijing as it was the cheapest available, according to Haaretz.
BBC Persian reported that an Iranian resident in Kuala Lumpur, who was an old friend of one of the men in Iran, hosted the two men after they arrived from Tehran and before boarding the flight.
