A military spy satellite has soared into the sky from an Israeli air force test range.

Defence officials have said before it is aimed at boosting the country’s intelligence gathering capabilities in the face of Iran’s nuclear programme.

It is claimed it will also spy on Iranian support for militant groups in neighbouring Arab countries.

It is the tenth such satellite sent into orbit by Israel. The last one was launched four years ago.
