James Carroll Butler has been ordered to pay 5 thousand and one dollars to the man whose coffee he urinated in 5 years ago.

Thankfully, the intended victim, Michael Utz, noticed that there was a strange-smelling liquid in the coffee pot in time, and didn’t ingest any.

At the time, though, he did let his supervisor know about it and the liquid was sent out for testing.

Both urine and fecal matter were detected.

Butler didn’t claim responsibility for what he’d done at first, but shortly after admitted he’d urinated in a toilet and then scooped the tainted water out with a soda can.

He poured it into the coffee pot hoping that Utz would be the one to drink it.

Butler apologized in a letter, writing, “I done something I am very much ashamed of to a co-worker for reasons, which are stress-related and things going on in my life on and off the job. I am very much ashamed of my stupid and childlike behavior.”

He was sentenced to a year in jail and, more recently, ordered to pay both punitive and compensatory damages.
