Why is this match important? Let's recap. In July Weidman did what many thought impossible. He beat the clowning and taunting Silva, knocking him out with a left hook just a minute into the second round. Silva had gone undefeated in 16 consecutive fights, felling 14 different fighters.
But was it just a fluke for Weidman? Thanks to his taunting and showman antics, it was a fight that many think Silva lost rather than Weidman won. Silva will be smarter in the Octagon a second time around, and Weidman will need to prove his win was more than just luck. To that end, Weidman has spent the past six months doing little but preparing for this epic rematch and perhaps the biggest pay-per-view event of all time.
If Silva doesn't rebound, is retirement the next step? It might not even come to that. The Brazilian fighter has been consistent, and losses have been rare. If he's focused and hungry to regain his title, Silva could be at his most dangerous in years. He has experience in the ring to outwit and out-psyche his opponent.
While Weidman is acknowledged as a great wrestler, Silva is seen as a better all-around fighter, combining striking, Muay Thai and jiu-jitsu. Perhaps this is why Silvia is favored to win via a technical knockout, according to Bovada.lv.
