Around 10,000 people from The Malaysian Chinese Association and Buddhist organisations have gathered in Kuala Lumpur to pray for the passengers and crew on board the missing Malaysian plane.
Their hopes were boosted after a Chinese ship detected several pings – or pulse signals – with the same frequency as those emitted by black box flight recorders.
Those signals were heard in the search zone west of Perth .. near where investigators believe the missing plane went down on March 8.
Pressure is building to find out if the pings are from the black box. The batteries powering those signals may be about expire.
Zhang Liang, Survey Captain, Shanghai Maritime Centre of Surveying and Mapping, explained:
“These few days are crucial for locating the black box flight recorder. The main problem is the battery of the underwater locater beacon may run out after April 6, which could pose more difficulties in finding it.”
Up to a dozen planes and thirteen ships will be scouring three separate areas west of Perth, Australia.
