Firefighters tried to rescue Ella Birchenough, 16, who was red-faced and stuck in a drain after climbing down into it to fish out her iPhone in Dover, England.

Ella was talking to her friend and went to put her phone in her pocket when it slipped down a drain. She went after it, legs first, in an attempt to reclaim the device with her feet, but soon became stuck. At one point, she managed to partly wriggle herself out, only to slide right back in, becoming 'completely stuck'.

Mobile phone shop employee Mr. Richards, 22, was driving home with his mother when he saw the trapped teen. He tried to pull her out, but couldn't, so a passer-by ran to fetch Ella's mother.

Her mother said she worried at first, but as soon as she saw that her daughter was fine, she laughed her head off. Then she called the fire brigade.

Firefighters took just minutes to free Ella and they also managed to recover her phone, though it was smashed to pieces. The teen was uninjured. After being pulled out, she ran straight home and jumped into the bath. Crews then made the area safe.
