Man convicted of killing toddler daughter by throwing her into New Jersey creek

A 29-year-old New Jersey man was found guilty of killing his 2-½ year old daughter in 2011 by throwing her into a creek.

Arthur Morgan III met his ex-girlfriend, Imani Benton, at the parking lot of the Dollar General Store in Lakehurst to pick up his daughter, Tierra Morgan-Glover. They were meant to go to see the animated film Happy Feet 2.

Instead Morgan drove around until he eventually ended up on a bridge which ran over a creek in Wall County's Shark River Park. He strapped his little girl into her car seat which he weighted by securing a car jack to it, kissed Tierra, then hoisted her into the water 17 feet below. Morgan admitted to hearing her crying as he drove off in his white 1995 Cadillac Deville.

Teenagers found her body the next day with one black and purple shoe sticking out and her bright pink jacket visible under the water's surface.

Morgan who left the state soon after the incident, was arrested about a week later in San Diego.

He later explained that he killed his daughter in an act of revenge against her mother after she broke their engagement.

In court, Morgan showed no remorse for his actions, smirking and winking to the cameras after being convicted of murder. He faces life in prison and will be sentenced late in May.
