McDonald’s restaurants in Crimea are closed for now in light of the larger political situation.
McDonald’s restaurants in Crimea are now closed. Citing "manufacturing reasons", the company has decided to temporarily shut down their establishments in the region.
In a statement, McDonald’s elaborated noting ‘Due to operational reasons beyond our control, McDonald's has taken the decision to temporarily close our three restaurants in Simferopol, Sevastopol and Yalta.’
The move to close down the restaurants comes after political tensions broke out in the area. The company hopes to reopen those locations as soon as possible, however in the meantime, executives are doing their best to accommodate employees.
All staffers in the three Crimean restaurants have been offered transfer opportunities to other franchises in the Ukraine. They will be able to take up the same positions and receive the same salary.
McDonald’s has now become the second company in Crimea to cease operations in the area following the ongoing dispute between Russia and the West. Deutsche Post and the Geneva based Universal Postal Union, recently halted delivery operations in Crimea.
