Did you know that the long running live TV sketch show Saturday Night Live hasn't had a black female player in the last five years? Not since Mya Rudolph left the show back in 2009 in fact.
Well it seems some of the black community did notice and have been clamoring for NBC execs to do something about it for years. I personally didn't realize it was an issue, because Keenan Thompson have been playing all the black female characters in drag. But he refuses to don pearls and dresses now.
Which is just fine now, since SNL has picked Sasheer Zamata as a new addition to the cast. She was chosen after auditions which featured exclusively women from minority races.
By the looks of her demo reel, the recent Virginia grad will fit in nicely with the rest of the Not Ready For Primetime Players. Hailing from Indianapolis, the 27 year old cut her teeth in ensemble comedy in New York City's Upright Citizens Brigade comedy troupe. She'll debut on January 18th broadcast on NBC.
