Argentine customs police have seized around 430 kg of liquid cocaine hidden in bottles bound for Spain, valued at an estimated 19 million euro.
According to local reports, a shipment of thousands of bottles of hand sanitizing gel arrived to the Buenos Aires-bonded warehouse Lo Primo II by truck where it stayed for several days.
It was about to be shipped to Spain when Buenos Aires customs police halted the shipment to inspect the product. Customs police opened the container and found 5,240 boxes piled onto 20 storage racks.
Police laid the boxes on the ground to allow detection dogs to sniff them. Part of the shipment tested positive for drug residue, Europapress reported. The boxes were then opened and two different products were found: 500 ml gel alcohol bottles and liquid alcohol bottles, totalling 31,400 pieces.
The liquid alcohol bottles contained a yellow/orange liquid that police found suspicious, local media reported.
Customs officers then weighed the bottles before sending them to a laboratory for testing. The liquid alcohol bottles were found to contain 17-20% pure cocaine diluted in alcohol.
The brand label Hands & Health, which appears on the bottles, is not available in the market and was created by the drug traffickers in order to ship the cocaine, AFIP told La Nacion.
