A policeman was stabbed to death and another injured in a violent attack by a group of assailants, believed to be Indonesians, in the Malaysian port city of Klang on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. while the two policemen, corporals Raja Aizam, 53, and Mohd Aidil, 29, were on patrol in a car and came across five men behaving in a suspicious manner in the area of Taman Sentosa, 40 km from Kuala Lumpur.
The officers attempted to conduct checks on the men, and a scuffle ensued. One of the men grabbed a pistol belonging to Aizam and attempted to shoot Aidil, but the weapon failed to discharge.
Another suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed Aizam in the neck. As this was happening, Aidil managed to recover his partner's weapon and shot two of the men. The other three fled the scene.
After police backup arrived, the two corporals were rushed to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital where Aizam was pronounced dead. Aidil had sustained injuries to the head and face.
Two assailants were also killed. Police said a knife was found at the scene of the crime, and forensic detectives are now combing the area for further evidence.
