At least two people are killed in a series of explosions outside Cairo University Wednesday.
Security sources say a police brigadier-general is among the dead, in what appears to be the latest militant attack in a fast-growing insurgency.
While arrests have been made, no one is immediately claiming responsibility for the attacks.
Islamist militants have carried out many similar operations against security forces since the army ousted President Mohamed Mursi of the Muslim Brotherhood last July.
In the aftermath comes the outrage.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) EGYPTIAN WOMAN SAYING:
"Yes, I am against terrorism. Give us weapons. We'll learn how to use them, and kill the Brotherhood in their dens, in their homes. These dogs - just like they kill people in their homes. A man standing performing his job, what did he do wrong? A student going to university, what did he do wrong to deserve this? Why? The people responsible are neither Egyptian, nor Muslim."
