US border patrol rescue man forced down well by drug smuggler

2014-04-02 20

US border patrol agents pulled a man from a 40-foot-deep dry water well in the southern Arizona desert on Wednesday, according to an Idaho Statesman report.

The border agents were out on patrol when they reportedly heard noises coming from the dry well.

The cries for help were from a man who became trapped down the 12 meter (40 feet) deep shaft.

The Guatemalan national had illegally crossed the border hours before. Drug runners wanted him to carry a package for them. When he refused, they forced him into the well, leaving him for dead.

The agents made a loop in a rope and used it pull to the man up and out of the well. The man was OK despite being in the well for about 24 hours. He is currently being processed for removal from the United States.
