2014-04-01 39

Five teenagers are in custody with one arrested for allegedly assaulting a female university student with a brick last Friday evening in North Philadelphia.

A couple was walking on Norris Street approaching 17th Street when they say they were confronted by a group of kids, age ranging from fourteen to seventeen, at the intersection. The teenagers began taunting the couple, especially the 19-year-old female Temple University student.

The children allegedly began to push the Temple student and pulled on her hair. It was then when one of the girls attacked the female's face with a brick while the others tried to rob the boyfriend.

"My boyfriend pushed the girl away from me that hit me in the face and then the girl's sister came at me with a brick," the victim told NBC10. The suspects fled the scene and boarded a SEPTA bus.

The victim was taken to Hahnemann Hospital where she underwent emergency facial surgery.

This was the first attack that happened in the same evening. Another Temple University student claimed that she was attacked by a group of young girls on 1700 block of Willington Street and another student were attacked at 1700 block of Cecil B Moore. Both were allegedly punched before the suspects fled. All three events occurred between 5:45 p.m. and 6:00 p.m..

Authorities on Monday released surveillance footage of the group of attackers which prompted the girls to surrender themselves to police the next day.

The motive of the attacks is still under investigation while the 15-year-old that hit the college student with the brick could face aggravated assault charges.
