Video showing Spokane police gunning down an armed robbery suspect just moments after he exited the house they surrounded on Wednesday night has surfaced online.
The video, taken by a witness at the scene, clearly shows several police officers unleashing more than a dozen rounds just seconds after 30-year-old Stephen Corkery opened the front door to the single-storey house at 1527 W. Grace Avenue.
Corkery had been wanted in connection with several armed robberies in the city this month. Police communicated to him via the public address system in a patrol car and told him that they were waiting for an arrest warrant. Corkery exited the house armed with a handgun, and while the officers are heard telling him to drop the weapon, they opened fire almost immediately.
Details from the investigation indicate the front of the house was marked with 14 bullet impacts. Corkery was treated by a SWAT medic on site, and transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries.
