Donkey Kong Classics review. Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow review of Donkey Kong Classics for the Nintendo Entertainment System developed and published by Nintendo.
For NES owners, 1988 was a good year. Nintendo released Super Mario Bros. 2 and Zelda 2, and just to sweeten the deal, they also rereleased two of their earliest hits on one cartridge. Donkey Kong Classics brings the original Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong, Jr. together for the first time, allowing NES owners to play the legendary gorilla’s first two games without switching cartridges. Donkey Kong Classics features the original NES versions of the games, however, so Donkey Kong is still missing a level. That’s about the only drawback to this compilation. If you own an NES, you need to own Donkey Kong Classics. The game also features beautiful cover art, with Mario slamming Donkey Kong in the head with a wooden hammer a la the original game. Donkey Kong is also holding Junior in his other hand, so the cover encompasses both games and establishes that, no, Mario and Donkey Kong don’t get along. Donkey Kong Classics offers single and multiplayer play.
