Sixteen bodies have now been recovered after the devastating mudslide in Washington state. Eight more have been found but are as yet too difficult to remove.

At least 90 individuals remain unaccounted for. Five days after a rain-socked hill collapsed search teams admit the remains of some may never be found.

The slide ranks as one of the worst in the United States. In 1961, 150 people were killed in landslides and floods in Virginia.
