Former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld minced no words when he offered his criticisms of the way the Obama administration is handling its dealings with Afghani leadership.

Among his issues was that they did not secure a status of forces agreement that would define the presence of US military in the country for the coming years, something ‘a trained ape’ could have done.

Given their “increasingly antagonistic” attitude towards the Afghani leadership in recent years, Rumsfeld said he understands why Afghanistan decided to back Russia in their efforts to annex Crimea.

Other countries that have offered their backing to Putin include Syria, Venezuela, and North Korea.

Afghanistan’s allegiance, according to Rumsfeld, could have been avoided if the Obama administration had done a better job with foreign relations.

He also mentioned that during the George W. Bush era, the relationship between the US and Afghanistan was ‘first-rate’ and has since slid "downhill like a toboggan".

He specifically called out Vice President Biden, former Secretary of State Clinton, and President Obama as being guilty of publicly trash talking the Afghani president into his current position on global affairs.
