Podiatrist Dr. Alan Rothstein of Windy Hill Podiatry discusses the Laser Treatments for Fungal Toenails.

Laser treatment for Fungal Toenail Infections
If your toenails appear yellow, brittle and thick, you may be suffering from onychomycosis, more commonly known as toenail fungus. Until recently the only viable treatment options included the surgical removal of the toenail, or treatment with at least three months of oral medication. Many people are reluctant to take the oral medication due to the risk of potentially dangerous side effects.
Luckily, now, there is another option available for Dr. Rothstein’s patients. Dr. Rothstein is using an FDA approved laser which can rid your toenails of unsightly toenail fungus in as little as one or two treatments. The laser penetrates the nail plate, eliminating the fungus that is damaging the nail and allowing your nail to return to normal appearance as the new nails grows out.
What To Expect:
Your toenails will be prepared and thinned by Dr. Rothstein prior to your laser treatment. During the treatment you may feel a mild warming sensation which is not painful. Depending on how many nails are infected, it will take between 10 to 15 minutes of actual laser time for the treatment. After treatment with the laser you will be given a care plan to help prevent re-infection.
Depending on how quickly your nails grow, you should see improvement within one to two months. New clear growth will appear at the base of the nail as the diseased portion of the old nail grows out at the end of your toe.
You may resume all of your normal daily activities immediately after the laser treatment, including using toenail polish and pedicure treatments

The Q-Clear laser is a safe, effective alternative for the treatment of toenail fungus. Please call our office for more information or to set up your appointment.
