It’s been 8 years since Mel Gibson unleashed his drunken, anti-Semitic rant, and some believe that he’s been frozen out of Hollywood long enough.

It’s been 8 years since Mel Gibson unleashed his drunken, anti-Semitic rant, and some believe that he’s been frozen out of Hollywood long enough.

Among those championing Gibson’s return to mainstream movies is freelance writer Allison Hope Weiner.

She wrote about the actor’s descent and says that in the years since, they’ve become friends.

Weiner says he is a changed man who now embraces Jews and Jewish culture and should be allowed to once again grace movie screens everywhere.

She’s not alone in her sentiments. Among the fallen actor’s other supporters are Robert Downey, Jr. and Gibson’s publicist.

On the other side of the debate are those who feel that he did so many offensive things for so long, there is no road back.

Said a USC professor who authored the book ‘Starstruck: The Business of Celebrity’, She pointed out, “is not the same thing as forgiving Lindsay Lohan for partying too late. Anti-Semitism is not just behaving badly.”

Others have brought up Gibson’s long history of racially charged comments.

Also mentioned was his pleading no contest to charges that he’d battered a former girlfriend.

In the years since his meltdown, Gibson has worked on smaller projects, but with little commercial success.
