Cameron Diaz recently shared some wise words on women and aging.

The actress and model told Oprah Winfrey that waking up one day as a 40-year-old woman was a liberating experience.

She remembered that on the morning of that birthday felt that her life was about to truly begin.

On the topic of women aging in general Diaz said, “…it is almost as if we have failed if we don’t remain 25 for the rest of our lives.”

She then jokingly apologized to the world for her inability – and refusal – to do so.

Diaz also admitted that she did fall prey to that idea at one point in her life, turning to Botox for the cure to growing older.

That decision has left her with regrets, and, according to Diaz, unwelcome facial changes.

Now, at 41, she’s chosen to embrace her age and has given herself permission to advance gracefully, despite societal pressures to stop the clock.

Winfrey echoed that sentiment noting that, "Our culture is obsessed with not growing into who you were really meant to be."

The interview is part of a show to be aired on the OWN network.
