Thieves have stolen a piece of an ancient fresco from one of the world’s most treasured archeological sites, Italy’s ancient city of Pompeii.
A depiction of the goddess Artemis was chiselled off in a House of Neptune cubicle, an area off-limits to members of the public.
Pompeii is a UNESCO World Heritage site and was home to about 13,000 people when it was buried under ash from a volcanic eruption in 79 A.D.
