Fears of uprising as Sudan's economy worsens

2014-03-18 6

The economy of Sudan has been suffering since South Sudan became an independent country in 2011.

The value of the currency has fallen and unemployment is rising.

Inflation rose sharply last year, reaching 44 percent by December, with much of the rise coming from basic food items such as meat, fruit, and milk.

With the government blamed for the situation, fears of a public rising are rife.

Al Jazeera's Mohammed Adow reports from Khartoum.
