Two American contractors for the international security forces ISAF were killed by a car bomb in Afghanistan's capital on Monday (February 10).
According to the New York Times, a convoy of sport utility vehicles were targeted by a suicide bomber in a Toyota Corolla as they left the main prison in Pol-e-Charkhi, eastern Kabul. The suicide bomber crashed head-on into the lead vehicle and detonated the bomb.
Two NATO contractors who were working on prison affairs riding in the first SUV were killed. It is not known how many were wounded by the blast. According to the Daily Times, the body parts and limbs of the suicide bomber were lying at the site of the attack. At least three vehicles, including the one belonging to the suicide bomber and two other cars were completely destroyed.
The attack was claimed by Hezb-i-Islami, the second largest militant group in Afghanistan after the Taliban. Haroon Zarghoon, a spokesperson for the group, said the attack had killed 13 Americans and destroyed three vehicles. He also claimed the attack had been planned for a week in order to avoid causing casualties among civilians, the New York Times reported.
