Anti-government protests in Caracas

There have been more clashes in Venezuela one month on from the first outbreak in the capital.

Violence erupted on Sunday when several thousand opponents of the country’s socialist government were prevented by police from marching on a military air base in Caracas.

Over the past four weeks at least 28 people have died in the country’s worst unrest in a decade.

Some 1,500 people have been arrested with 100 or so still detained.

Militant opposition leaders and students have been protesting over a range of issues from crime and shortages of goods to the presence of Cuban advisers in Venezuela’s army and other state institutions.
